Document checklist
A complete study permit application typically needs:
- Valid passport with at least 6 months remaining
- Letter of Acceptance from a DLI
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), where required
- Proof of funds: GIC ($20,635 minimum for outside Quebec, 2024 rate) + tuition + family support
- Statement of purpose
- Language test (IELTS/PTE/etc.) โ most DLIs require minimum 6.0โ6.5
- Police certificate (if required by visa office)
- Upfront medical exam (if required)
Working while studying
Most students can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks, without a separate work permit. Co-op work permits are issued separately for mandatory work placements that are part of your program.
Refusal recovery
Study permit refusals are common โ often around statement of purpose, ties to home country, or proof of funds. We review refusal letters under the Access to Information process, identify the specific officer concerns, and prepare a corrected reapplication that addresses them point-by-point.
Use our study budget calculator to estimate the proof of funds you'll need.
